Atsushi chose to write beyond the boundaries of his homeland, and in this collection of short stories, he explores ancient China, featuring Confucius and his disciples as the main focus instead of modern Japanese literature. The stories touch on themes such as an archer striving for ultimate mastery, the rise and fall of rulers, a poet transforming into a tiger, and a river monster searching for its identity.
