Sparrow (Arabic Book)

"Al-Asfouriyah" is a local term in the Levant region that means "the mental hospital," and the protagonist is the professor who narrates the history of the Arab nation in a clinical therapy session with a psychiatrist. Here, Al-Qusaybi intended to say that the mental hospital is the only place where the sane can speak in this world. In this novel, Al-Qusaybi blends local dialects and criticizes the "khawaja" complex among intellectuals and the Arab elite, as well as the issue of power and other chronic Arab problems, with unprecedented boldness. The novel ends with the madness of the psychiatrist and the escape of Al-Qusaybi into other worlds, a crazed ending to a mad world.
