This novel, The Brothers Karamazov, is considered the last work by the renowned author Fyodor Dostoevsky. After the death of his son Alexei, who suffered from epilepsy, he sought a way out of his tragedy, and the only outlet he found was through a monumental work that would conclude his literary career - leaving its ending open. In December 1877, he decided to cease all activities except writing. He dedicated his time to collecting notes and memoirs that would become the material for his new novel. He said, "In March 1878, I have conceived and will soon begin a major novel, with numerous characters, among them many children." He opened his research journal with a concept, "The possibility of lying down on the railroad tracks while a train passes over you at full speed." Within three years, The Brothers Karamazov emerged, a work that may seem simple but possesses a profound simplicity that challenges and provokes the reader. Dostoevsky had the audacious thought, boldly addressing his readers, "As for me, in my life, I have done nothing but push myself to the utmost limit, something you dare not do, except halfway." We cannot ignore that The Brothers Karamazov is not an ordinary novel but one of the most debated and influential works in the second half of the 19th century, and even in world literature as a whole, throughout history.
